So now you have worked out what skin type you have and what your biggest skincare concerns are (anti-ageing anyone?) the most important thing you can do for your skin is to set out a good skincare routine for morning and evening.
There is no such thing as an instant fix so you need to give it at least six weeks of consistent use to see any results (longer for some actives including retinol which can take up to 6 months to show results).
I get DM’s all the time about what your skincare routine should involve so I have tried to put a basic one together below. Depending on your skin type and concern you may need to add some extra weekly treatments. But start with the basics.
This is the kind of routine I would suggest you build up too. If you aren’t using all these products at the minute add one in at a time.
Exfoliating toner / acid
Vitamin C serum with antioxidants
Cleanse (double cleanse if wearing makeup)
There are lots of other options that can be added in, but to me this is what pretty much everyone needs in their routine. Apart from this depending on your skincare concern you might want to do a weekly mask etc.
So what exactly do I do with this? Continue reading below for my skincare routine.
To put this into practice I’ll list out what I do in my routine as again I get so many questions about what I use on my own face.
I’m currently using a mixture of cleansers. I love acids (as I hope you all know by now) so I alternate between 2 acid face washes and 1 without.
Jan Marini Bioglycolic Cream Cleanser - contains glycolic acid to help exfoliation
Cerave SA Smoothing cleanser - contains salicylic acid which keeps my pores clean
Cerave Hydrating Cleanser for those days I feel a little dry
Exfoliating Acid / Toner
I’m currently using the P50 Lotion which contains a mixture of acids for excellent exfoliation
Vitamin C serum with antioxidants
I’m currently switching between the Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and Drunk Elephant C Firma. Both contain L-ascorbic acid at concentrations of 15% (skinceuticals) and 10% (drunk elephant). Both good options.
I find my skin gets a bit dehydrated during the winter months due to the cold weather so this is a step I never miss. Again I’m alternating between two products - the reason for all the alternating is I get so many options sent to me, and I like to try them out before I recommend them to you lovely lot.
La Roche Posay Hyalu B5
Skinceuticals HA Intensifier
Again I’m alternating between a couple of different options here. I wanted to try the skinceuticals A.G.E Interupter since I started stocking skinceuticals and it is luxurious. A real treat for all us tired mummies. Other nights I use two cheaper brands - The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors and Cerave PM Moisturising Lotion. All fantastic options.
SPF I’m using up my Paulas choice super light daily wrinkle defense which I got this summer and has a little bit of tint that I like.
I use a different cleanser at night time - the NIOD Sanskrit Saponins. I don't wear makeup so I don't ever double cleanse.
Hydrating / Antioxidant Serum
I’ve been trying out the Resveratrol BE Serum from Skinceuticals as I was hoping that this would help my skin given I can’t use retinol.
I usually use prescription strength tretinoin but this is out in pregnancy so I currently skip this step. I’m waiting to receive bakuchiol from The Inkey List but until then I’m hoping other products will help my skin.
One of the same selection from AM routine.
Every week I do an acid mask - my ALL TIME FAVOURITE PRODUCT is the ordinary AHA 30% and BHA 2% Peel. I follow it with the Image Vitaal C hydrating eznzyme masque and the combination of both gives me the best glow.
Ok. I hope that helps you put a skincare routine in place. Please let me now if you have any questions.
